A new Aircraft Sector Understanding has been signed that establishes how the U.S., Japan, EU, Brazil and Canada can provide export credit financing for commercial aircraft. The agreement is aimed at ensuring a “level playing field” among manufacturers and a balanced relationship between export credit and the commercial markets.

New Features May Impact Airline Customers Seeking Export Credit

Boeing believes there are some major issues with the new ASU agreement since it stipulates higher fees and more stringent terms than its predecessor, reduces incentives for ratifying the Cape Town Treaty and reclassifies the 737-600 as a regional jet. These issues may have long-term impact on export credit financing and need to be addressed during the agreement review process.
