Aviation Confronts the Challenge of Climate Change

Recognizing that climate change and global warming are a definitive challenge in the current era, Boeing is taking a leadership role in achieving sustainable aviation. The aviation industry already leads the transport sector in reducing noise, fuel use and carbon emissions. A unified global environmental policy, as opposed to fragmented regional regulations, can help manufacturers, airlines, governments, and financiers coordinate industry-wide efforts to further reduce carbon emissions. Coordinating improvements in technology and operating procedures can produce significant long-lasting benefits while sustaining aviation’s crucial contribution to the world’s economy.

The Aviation Working Group is engaged in developing and promoting global, multilateral approaches to aviation emissions management. In seeking observer status with the ICAO Committee on Environmental Protection--the sole global organization chartered to address environmental regulation for aviation worldwide--the AWG is committed to collaborate with governments and policy makers on regulation that takes into account the efficiency of modern aircraft and global aircraft financing infrastructure.
